We are excited to share resources and ideas for how you can get your 12 hours of continuing education this year. Scroll down to see monthly offerings and lists of suggested resources. Below you will find options for continuing education that are not time sensitive and are available on your schedule. There will be recorded webinars, websites, articles, books, podcasts and movies. Each month you will receive an update from Nancy Steele, Training Manager, with upcoming trainings you can register for. If you have not received these emails you can reach out to her at the email below.
Pre-Recorded Webinars You Can View on Your Own
- Continuing Ed Hours are counted from July 1 to June 30th.
- You need one hour per month to meet National standards. You can get more hours in a month if that works best for you.
- Your hours are prorated if you are sworn in after July of the current year.

- November 2021 7 Hours
- January 2022 5 Hours
- March 2022 3 Hours
- May 2022 1 Hour

Summary Response Guidelines for Optima
In order for your continuing education hours to be approved in Optima you will need to put the title and what type of material it was (book, video, presentation, podcast, article). Please add the following information :
- SUMMARIZE MAIN POINTS
- HOW WILL THIS HELP YOU IN YOUR ROLE AS A VOLUNTEER
- DOES THE INFORMATION APPLY TO YOUR CURRENT CASE? IF SO, HOW WILL YOU USE IT?
- WOULD YOU RECOMMEND THAT OTHER VOLUNTEERS WATCH THIS? WHY OR WHY NOT?

Book Recommendations
- National CASA Book Club. A recent book that was talked about in the National CASA Book Club
- “Poorly Understood: What America Gets Wrong about Poverty. If you are interested in joining the National CASA Book Club
- “Three Little Words” Ashley Rhodes-Courter- “The inspiring story of the tumultuous nine years that Ashley Rhodes-Courter spent in the foster care system and how she triumphed over painful memories and real-life horrors to ultimately find her own voice.

- “What Happened to you?” by Dr. Bruce Perry and Oprah Winfrey. This book has been recommended by a number of volunteers because it addresses so many important aspects of trauma that can help us understand and support the youth on our cases and as one volunteer said-it helped her heal as well.

- From Advocates from Children CASA: Jessica Fann, Co-Located Domestic Violence Advocate did an outstanding webinar DV 201 for our volunteer community. She was generous enough to allow us to record her, so please take some time to watch and learn. We are seeing a significant increase in the number of cases that have Domestic Violence. This was recorded on October 19th, 2021.
